As a phd student that has random lab tours dumped on me I want to say 2 things.

1. You were incredibly respectful in acknowledging that you are interrupting someone's work day in a way no one ever is, that was amazing.

2. While I appreciate your grace in the matter, it is also a rare day when we get to share our research with anyone who is as engaged as you are. I suspect your presence made their day.

My Dad was on the maintenance team that resurfaced the dish back in 2001. He is probably the only person to have slid down the dish on a tea tray. Apparently it's one of the most terrifying things he's ever done.
