We can't invent a robot better than these ferrets

In Derbyshire, at the National Ferret School, I say "hello" to some smelly thieves, and go on a surprisingly Biblical tangent.

This place must be in chaos constantly. He didnโ€™t even seem surprised about the unexpected ferret in the corrugated pipe ๐Ÿคทโ™‚๏ธ

20:05 Surely heโ€™s about to mention the most important Ferret to modern scienceโ€ฆ In 1971, Felicia, at the National Accelerator Laboratory (now Fermilab) was used by physicists to remove debris out of their 4-mile-long atomic particle collider.

"I imagine that are smart enough to get out of the way...." "NO" "...of feet... oh they're not..."

Great line

Ferrets are notoriously behind us in robot making.

"They do that on their own, but we supervise it."

This is peak British bloke in his shed humour.

at my work, we sell a product that's a long stick with a tiny camera on the end for checking pipes for blockages, and another product that's a long, slightly-bendy stick with a wheel on the end for pulling cables through a pipe. They're from different companies that both chose to call their product "ferret". Now I know why.

To be fair, if a giant swang me around for a bit, I'd probably be a bit bewildered for a minute or two

they used a ferret to clean the Fermi lab particle accelerator back in the 1970's. Her name was Felicia! my favourite physics trivia.

I lived with ferrets in my home for 16 years. While at university, a car accident left me with epilepsy. Digger, my hob, helped me readjust to life with the occasional breakthrough seizure. I got him two different jills to live with him while I was busy with school. He outlived both, and stuck around to a ripe old age. He was such a dear that I could take him out for walks (theyโ€™ll train to a cat harness) and let him sit with me at the local coffee house. It had outside seating games, so we could just sit and play with total strangers. People loved meeting such a well behaved boy!

Tom Scott discovers why Ferrets are nicknamed "Chaos Noodles" on the internet.

โ€œWhatโ€™s that noise?โ€

โ€œThatโ€™s the noise they makeโ€

I mean, heโ€™s not wrong.

About how fast ferrets are. I have a friend who had one many years ago, so we had to learn how to leave a room with a ferret in it. First you open the door slightly, and catch the ferret in the crack. Then you throw the ferret in an arc to the furthest corner, jump out, and close the door, before the ferret lands. If it touches any solid surface before you closed the door, you lost, and have to start over.
@
I assume if 20 ferrets is called a business then 10 of them must be called a startup
@
There already being a ferret in the corrugated pipe might be my favorite unplanned bit on this channel

"We should see a pavlovian reflex"
I guess Tom has been conditioned to greet ferrets.

30 years as an electrician shoving fish tapes and other stuff down the conduit.
All I needed was a ferret?
@
So this is technically a business school?

Decades of ferret jokes in that man's head

"Do you breed them?"
"They do that on their own."
Peak British response.
