Violence against railway employees is on the rise in Germany. Months after a ticket inspector was killed on the job, Germany is still struggling to improve security on trains.
I am so tired of hearing this excuse about people feeling stressed, under pressure,' mental health '.... what is wrong with us!! We're not living in a war zone, we're not living through medieval plague! We have antibiotics, central heating, hot and cold running water,water safe to drink piped straight to our house,healthcare, social security, police forces, rights to safety and fairness in the workplace..things our forefathers were still dreaming about! People are spoiled. We need some old fashioned valies- responsibilities over rights, consequences accepted for your actions, providing a service and appreciating a service. We've really lost our way. That a man can be murdered for catching someone travelling without a ticket is mindboggling. So sorry for his poor family.
I don’t know if there is a similar problem in Germany but In the UK companies run trains on minimum staff. Sometimes they have to cancel trains at very short notice as there’s simply not enough crew. They care more about profit than safety.
One part of the Problem: The normal DB workers on the ground suffer because of the frustration whole germany has since years with Deutsche Bahn. That are the wrong ppl to be mad at. Management and politicians should get this „attention“. I have to travel in Germany frequently and its a surprise if they are on time or the train is mot cancelled. Its a damn shame. They get more and more expensive but the service is less and less. Only thing that keeps them alive that they are de facto a monopolist. They just DGAF.
The government could step in, to make an attack on ticket inspectors equal to attack on a police officer. That is, I hope at least the police is better protected in this regard.
I'm honestly not surprised, given the utter freefall of service quality. That said, it is of course lamentable that the ones being accosted for it are not the ones to blame. The latter will still get richer while doing a terrible job.
Id say a lot of this rage is coming from the fact everyone is incredibly frustrated with the DB service. It is the most unreliable transport service i have ever used. Been here more than 5 years and it's just gotten progressively worse. I never go to get a train with a good mood. Imahine always thinking you could be minimum 30mins late to your destination.
