Bro is using "draining the oceans" to covertly teach calculus

The lore of Half Life does have the Combine draining the Earth's ocean to send to other planets in the multiverse via an interdimensional portal. The theory is that the Combine put this portal underneath the Mariana's Trench. However, seeing this video, the Combine is likely to be using several smaller portals rather than one big one to fully drain Earth's oceans (as it doesn't seem they would be satisfied until all resources are fully exploited).

In a world overflowing with Ground News adverts, this one has the best segue.

You and Randall should unite to compile/invent a list of fictional science problems like this, which would be a gold mine maybe not for PhD research but certainly for highschool and undergrad projects.

Not even getting into the fact that huge slopes would collapse because of the changing pressures. Basically, you'd be creating all sorts of new dams, many of them without sufficient support.

It's worse than that. Water is HEAVY! removing that water will cause the seafloor to rise - according to local conditions, meaning it is impossible to model unless you know what the crust is in detail as well as the physics of the mantle underneath.
