I was worried I did my tax return incorrectly for the small business but then I saw Tesla had 0 Federal Income Tax liability on 3.249 Billion in EBIDTA. These corporations are the biggest welfare queens in the United States and they pay the media to consistently blame immigrants and the poor economic woes.
I think a parallel to your idea that "corruption is bad but we've forgotten why" is that vaccines are good, but we've forgotten why - we're so far removed from things like polio and smallpox that the incredible power of vaccines is no longer obvious to many.
Friendly reminder, the top 10% are closing in on owning 70% of household wealth in the US while the bottom 50% own around 2.5% of household wealth. Fighting culture wars is a fantastic distraction from the ongoing class one we're all losing.
