'this is a little owl.'

'is that a description or an official tittle?'

'yes.'

A Trebuchet? Thats like the most badass way to shoot stuff!

I saw a trebuchet misfire at Warwick castle once (unsure if it was this exact one). It was at night and they had lit the projectile on fire to make a big spectacle, but instead of flying forwards, it went straight up into the air and back down again. Saw all of the staff scatter away from the machine, then turn around and run back towards it to extinguish the projectile when it landed. Cool memory for me, can't imagine how terrifying it would have been for the staff
@
the idea of someone yelling "HEADS" and launching the trebuchet...
@
I watched the sponsorship just for the owl
@
The kid in me who spent many, many hours playing Age of Empires is getting a huge kick out of this!
@
looks like that beauty could launch a 90kg projectile over 300m
@
1:01 if you had to draw a picture of a trebuchet masterโ€ฆ

As a nod to the accuracy and reliability of these things I once spoke to some reenactors who had a smaller one and it was called "Tuesday", because they said it only really worked on Tuesdays - every other day something failed or the shot flew off in any direction it felt like

"As soon as it goes, let go of the rope"
Me: He's gonna forget to let go of the rope

Just wanted to let you and the team know that the captions on your channels are well appreciated. Even as someone with no hearing issues just yet, I still find myself relying on the captions now and then, and having them so carefully entered and color-coded makes your videos so much easier to enjoy when a little help is needed.
@
I was only slightly disappointed upon finding out that "climb inside" did not refer to tom being the projectile
@
Should've trebuched your camera

If I had a nickel for every time I watched Tom Scott in a medieval human-sized hamster wheel, Iโ€™d have two nickels. Which isnโ€™t a lot, but itโ€™s weird that itโ€™s happened twice.

Also, I visited Warwick castle 20 years ago this summer, and had a blast. Glad to see itโ€™s still as fun as I remember.

"If wou would like to help protect the planet from your sofa..." - What did my sofa to the planet that it needs protection from it?
@
4:38 imagine the headlines "plane downed by medieval siege engine"
@
Tom is the answer to the question: Can I do this, if I ask nicely?
@
Thereโ€™s something so funny about confirming that your trebuchet is armed over walkie-talkie
@
I love that this series highlights people who have absolutely bonkers jobs that they carry out like a regular workday. It's brilliant

We tried to place the camera near the landing point, we really did. | AD: This week's video is the best sponsor read I've ever done. Thank you to the Planet Wild team, to the folks on the ground in Germany, and of course, to the surprisingly unbothered owls. planetwild.com/r/tomscott/join/7
