Remember when we had a backyard and it wasn't a big deal? We've been robbed.

Rent makes up 80% of my weekly income as a Uni student. Same with everybody else I know. I feel like it’s a seriously overlooked crisis.

Yet another example of wasteful, decietful corporate welfare labelled as something else.
@
Why blame the developers? Blame stupid law makers that let such things happen legally.
@
Housing for all should be a priority for government if people have secure affordable housing they are happier and more productive ,it’s a no brainer

Strata management is another area that needs investigation and regulation

Why bother with this when everyone appears to not care about anyone unless they make something out of it

where is the actual affordable housing? why is this "affordable housing" for people on median and above incomes? yes it's important to provide median earners with affordable housing but what about those earning less, and those living below the poverty line on DSP/unemployment - shouldn't we be focusing on them first? we need public housing and truly affordable housing, not these weak agreements that are only making greedy developers even richer off the public purse

This is excellent journalism

Ripped off by the developers again, govt needs to set up a bipartisan govt owned developer and workforce otherwise the issue will never improve.

If $400for a single person is 'affordable' then im cooked as a single person. There is nothing affordable about $400 per person. This is $800 per week for two person rental.

Makes no sense from the bottom looking up, makes perfect sense from the top looking down. We are mistaken if we think that policies are for the betterment of the people.

Like everything, it's legalized corruption. redistributing public wealth to the rich. selling out our resources now selling out our basic human rights.

We need a Government developer to build public housing. It's basic! Time to get a grip and stop this madness.

Australia needs more public housing not the bs "affordable" housing with private public partnerships.

Last guy nailed it: 'A mentality has taken over around how do we turn everything into a vehicle for private entities to make a return from being involved and that's in areas which we never thought possible, aged care, child care, disability, housing'. And in every single one of those areas we have also seen massive abuse of the system, corruption, neglect of human rights and even in the case of childcare major failures to protect children from predators. How many more indictments of this stupid, wilfully blind system that props up the private sector and fails society, do we need??
