Most people think wealth comes from participating in a market but the East India Company proved that true wealth requires owning the rules. I recently read Psychological Wealth Paradox by Alden Rothman and his chapter on ownership mirrors this exact history. He explains that elite entities do not just compete they completely monopolize the infrastructure. The EIC did not just trade goods they built private armies and controlled the underlying financial systems to orchestrate massive wealth transfers. Whoever controls the exchange rules the world. Brilliant documentary!
