For 100 Years Ontario & Quebec have dealt with the prevailing winds bringing massive pollution from the industrial heartland of the midwest into our lungs. Acid rain harmed our lakes. Higher than avg cancer rates. And now some of them (really only the loud few, most Americans are awesome) are getting pissy about a GD temporary campfire.
He acts like Canada somehow can control where the wind takes the smoke. He also acts like the US doesn’t have the same problem. And aid is received from countries like Canada to fight the wildfires that occur instead of criticism for where the smoke goes. What about the Canadians in the immediate vicinity of these fires and smoke? They’re suffering the most and not receiving aid, but instead are being criticised for where the smoke goes by some toxic narcissist. And tariffs on top of that? Seriously?
😢 Our sister country is under a very difficult environmental situation. Our hearts ❤ go out to you and we (Michigan) stand with you during this difficult time. This is a problem we all need to work together and address. We have always stood side by side and worked together and we must continue!
The U.S. isn't the only place blanketed in smoke. Canadians are suffering and two communties have burnt to the ground while people flee for their lives!!!! And here we are worried about the impact on Americans. Not a single bit of help comes from them yet a Canadian fire fighter died this week helping out against fires in Colorado. What a shame that we can't focus on the victims. But do go on and center how Americans "feel" right now. Here I sit in my Canadian city blanketed in smoke but, Americans are the real issue. Right? Shameful.
America dumps 4600 mega tonnes per year of CO2 into the atmosphere, compared to Canada's 600 mega tonnes. (China by itself adds another 13,000 mega tonnes and the EU adds 3300). All this heat is hardly Canada's responsibility to solve.
A BC helicopter pilot was helping put out fires in Colorado last week, he died while helping America with it's problems. Canada sends help, America sends tariffs. If the wind shifted, and smoke from American fires was travelling north, would America pay compensation? It's foolish.
Threatening Canada with tariffs over wildfires polluting the skies, enforces for the umpteenth time that Donald J. Trump is as thick as two short planks or perhaps as thick as the smoke from the fires.
Too bad we can't send that smoke only to the White House and Mar-a-Lago.

I agree that conditioning can't overcome toxicity, Coach Reyes. However, would delaying the match be more realistic than expecting athletes to perform in masks?

Asking world-class athletes to mask up during a World Cup final is wild. These players are conditioned for peak performance, but you can't out-train a "toxic soup" of smoke. If the air quality is that bad, it's no longer about who has the better strategy—it's about who can actually breathe. Absolute game-changer.
