When Israeli forces occupied the town of Bint Jbeil in southern Lebanon, thousands of miles away in Michigan, Danielle Elzayat thought to check on her house.

Thank you for highlighting Bint jbeil. Please we need you to focus more on the systematic destruction of civilian homes in south lebanon so the world can know the truth. Right now the houses of innocent people are being bombed and they have no voice. Since the start of this war and every time there is a ceasefire, forces enter these villages just to blow up residential homes. They are completely emptying the towns so residents can never return. The media is entirely ignoring this even Lebanese media due to politics and racism. If it weren't for the people from Bint jbeil in Michigan speaking out about their homes, no one would even know this is happening. Regular innocent people are completely lost after having their family homes and businesses destroyed. These places have nothing to do with the war, yet no one is speaking up to defend them.
Those are not US homes, they are a home abroad that is owned by someone from the US. I am very sad for these families, especially all the history that was lost.
Yeah, it's their vacation homes that they visit maybe once a year. These people are wealthy enough to own one house in the US and one abroad and be able to travel there regularly. I would focus on the on the people that are living in Lebanon, that are actually loosing their only home as well as their lives
I feel the sorrow for your losses. My family has ancestral losses as well. What is lost are houses and property, they were no longer homes. Your property may still be yours. Our families have made the difficult choices to emigrate to what is now our homes. As Americans, we have come from somewhere else, including our precolumbian native population. Some of our ancestors left being forced for life or death, others for freedom or opportunity, rarely if ever an easy choice. Having visited the tombs of my ancestors dating well over a millennium, the importance of knowledge, history, and respect are paramount. We live, survive, thrive and procreate because our elders made the decisions, often under force, to come to a country that welcomed effort with opportunity, relative enlightenment, freedom to make choices, and struggle nonetheless. The destruction in question is between fundamentalism and sovereignty. There is little right and much wrong, such is the course of humanity.
My family has some property in Lebanon. I’m not worried about the property in Beirut, but I worry about our house in Mlikh that’s been in our family for over a century. It’s a Christian village, but close to the fighting. My great-grandmother, who could actually read and speak Aramaic, grew up there and was buried there about 10 years ago. Can we please end this unnecessary destruction and suffering.
