Hotter days are lasting longer, and winters are getting shorter. Here in NY, winters used to start in October, now they start in December…and we still get warm days in December. In NY there’s basically no Fall anymore.
Hydration is not enough! No-one is talking about the need for electrolytes. When salts are perspired out you can’t perspire any more and its urgent to get your body temperature down in other ways - perhaps a wrapped ice pack behind neck or immerse in water if it’s cool enough. Unfortunately in a prolonged heat wave even water from the tap may be luke warm. A splitting headache may be one of the early symptoms. Eating some salt in hot weather can help but your pharmacies need to stock electrolyte powders to mix in drinks. I speak from experience as have had heat stroke several times. Some people are genetically more prone to have it even if young and healthy. NOT FUN!
Can we stop vilifying A/C? If you are scarred of high electricity bill then fund installation of solar panels and use them to power A/C. It's not possible to live without aircon anymore.
People suffer, and politicians that “lead” us and are supposed to take care of us, do nothing to prepare for something that’s been forecasted for years. Humanity has no hope if we keep allowing them to focus on anything else but the well being of everyone on earth!
Air conditioning is the quickest way to stop people from dying. Planting trees is nice, but someone is going to die next week, next year. Trees aren't going to help them. It's not right to let people die because AC isn't chic. I know that nice lady from Washington DC has AC. There's no way she could be in her house when it's 100 degrees without AC.
Those ppl who say on TV that they think no AC is needed, they need to check where they live and maybe they are making such statements inside air-conditioned office/studios
