“EU” and “assurance to protect your privacy” is a dissonance in the same sentence.

There's already SEPA Instant, just build on that - POS terminals could allow paying via QR or NFC, and banking apps would implement the rest
@
The problem is they can void or restrict use of your digital cash like china.
@
Explanation just sounds silly, implying that regular euro on bank accounts are written only against physical papers

Fancy name for CBDC (Central Bank Digital Currency)
Eventually they will say cash is only used by criminals and take away that freedom

For those who worry about how we are at risk of losing control of our own individual freedoms. For once we have a common interest with a very large and powerful group: banking! They will do everything in their power to stop/block digital currencies as it threatens their way of life.

It is already software based. My monthly salary enters my account as a number in a database. I'm not paid in hard cash.

The moment you charge me any% for using my cash I switch to physical money.

Good idea, but I hope the same group doesn't touch this project that made that European version of the "age verification app" that was immediately hacked.

As long as I can see the balance on computer too and not just on my phone

We must break out of those USA companies that could lock us all out if they wanted to.

So the banks have easily dealt with a wide range of different digital wallets, and had zero problems.

But now there's a plan for the digital Euro and the banks objection, because its technally difficult in impliment the technology to intigrate.

In Cambodia, we have Bakong payment/wallet, which enables across bank transfer through QRcode.

Finally some digital currency in Europe

I'm behind anything that doesn't involve American companies siphoning off a fraction of every transaction for nothing! Australia had the local EFTPOS system for decades, but it was never brought into the NFC tap to pay era, so everyone uses Visa/MC, and off goes billions in fees to the USA.

Brazil has PIX and that’s based off of India’s IRU (7/12 correction: “UPI” not IRU) which in both cases has basically replaced cash across the entire each respective country. 78% of all in person and digital transactions in Brazil are PIX the digital cash equivalent of this Digital Euro idea. It can be done and merchant incentives to customers helped accelerate it indeed.

Should definitely come to America asap I hope.

At 00:09 we're talking about a digital euro, but by mistake say "physical euro". Apologies for the mistake.

Having an independent digital system for euro is a great idea, but it should not replace physical money
