This almost made me cry. I'm so glad these instructors are there to help these children, not only are they learning a valuable skill and can gain some confidence back, they are also being given a calm moment of normalcy and happiness. A small step towards healing, but an important step nonetheless.
This is beautiful. They are using their bodies again. Trusting themselves. And finding confidence. Also a way to find exercise that’s fun! Oh them playing just warms my heart. As a trauma therapist this just so much better than you realize. This IS trauma therapy. It’s reconnecting them to a very scared and untrusted body.
I agree, GreenThumb, though one could argue that framing it this way highlights the resilience of these families in such extreme conditions. It's a sobering reminder of the disparity in our daily realities.

It’s heartbreaking that something as simple as learning to swim has to be framed as a "vital tool" for survival there. It reminds me of how much we take for granted—just a day at the beach with the kids without a second thought about safety. I hope these little ones get to just be children for a while.
