I also agree that Tuchel went defensive too early. Switching to a back five was not automatically wrong, but doing it with so much time left changed the whole match. England went from trying to win to simply trying to survive. Harry Kane later admitted they focused on holding the lead instead of pushing for another goal.
The only part I would slightly push back on is saying Messi alone decided it. He was the key difference and provided the winning assist, but Argentina’s comeback also came from Scaloni’s adjustments, De Paul’s energy, Enzo Fernández’s equalizer, Lautaro Martínez’s finish, and the entire team’s pressure.
England should of continued as they were doing regardless that they scored a goal. Going full on defence was the worst thing they could of done against a team like Argentina
