A huge fire engulfed a pub in Bangkok early on Monday morning, killing at least 27 people before firefighters brought the blaze under control, officials said.
There are new lessons that need to be learned. Regrettably, these lessons often only become apparent after lives have been lost. While policies are in place, their enforcement appears to be lacking.
Some of the 'nightlife streets in Pattaya are a disaster in waiting! Full of parked motorcycles, street carts and vendors--no emergency appliances will ever be able to access any fire!
As someone who spent 26 years in Thailand Bkk…a survivor of Santika blaze 2009..which has taught me to be careful when frequenting Thailand nightlife venues..I have observed since most clubs and discos has one narrow exit and ones which have many exits will be locked or blocked with storage!..some if not all have no sprinklers fire extinguishers let alone fire alarms!..they should have learned from santika fire!..Thai ppl has a lacklustre attitude towards safety standards..zero accountability!..even if you go stay close to the exits!..DO NOT get too intoxicated!..most clubs are overcrowded!..DO NOt run into the toilets!…this is exactly why Thai govt make it mandatory for tourist to have travel insurance before entering the capital cos high incidence like these…I’m appalled and alarmed at social media influencers who are promoting rooftop bars etc..I have been to some of them and checked quite a few are death traps especially those high floor lifts!…all of you might think I’m paranoid but I still have scars from santika fire 2009!…stay safe!
Thailand will never learn. We see this time and time again out here. Nothing new. The Mayor of Bangkok and the so called PM do nothing to solve these issues. They just help their rich friends make more money. It's a disgrace but nothing will ever change.
This is so horrific. Condolences to loved ones and speedy recovery to the love ones. 🫶🙏
