I worked at the UN for several years, primarily in peacekeeping. While the UK is a fairly respected member an as a member of the P5 has a convening a bit greater than most, I simply saw no evidence that the UK was an especially powerful country at the UN or that people saw getting the UK on board in any issue added any special weight or gravitas. I think this man, like so many of our professional diplomats are deluded.
