Caught malaria? Fast treatment can save your life. Modern drugs kill the parasites attacking your blood, but resistance is growing fast, and without treatment, severe malaria is often deadly.
I'm in malaria area since I was born until today. But thankfully I never got one. Malaria here is common like flu but feel worse. Just make sure you get your medicine and stick to it, then you'll survive. 14 days after the medication, you have to get a blood test to make sure that parasite is gone
I got Malaria while staying in Uganda for 3 months. I say I got Malaria, I was never tested but we spoke to a pharmacist he "diagnosed" me on the spot. Got the 3 day horse pill sized treatment and was feeling better within 48 hours thankfully
Keep in mind that the survival rates are only for cases that are documented. There are thousands of cases in places like rural Uganda where people are rationing their malaria medication (which is already hard to come by due to a lack of medical infrastructure) preventing it from being completely effective and often leads to death. As another by product of this rationing, the malaria parasites are unintentionally artificially selected to be resistant against antibiotics
Malaria is no fucking joke. I've had it. It feels like being an extra 50+ kilos overweight, you're constantly tired and anything you try to eat tastes like rubber. It took me a few weeks to recover. The longer it goes untreated the worse it gets.
At this point prevention is cheaper than treatment.
