25 Historical Disasters Caused by Human Error

The one that hits hardest for me is the Halifax explosion. I live outside Boston, and every year, Halifax sends Boston a huge Christmas tree to thank them for showing up after the disaster to help out. Every year, I hear about that tree going up, and am reminded why we get it. Bless you, Halifax.

Hi Mike, regarding Blaten. 1 person did die. He was a shepherd that lived just outside the estimated disaster zone so he stayed with his animals. He died bc the government underestimated the damage it would cause.

You really glanced over the Boston Molasses Flood and the Halifax Explosion 1917. I'm from Massachusetts and this stories both had proof there are good people in this world.

I was hoping to see the Mall Collapse tragedy that happened in Seoul, Korea. It’s a highlight on why taking shortcuts could end in catastrophic disasters.

Also I have to say, it doesn't matter how many victims there are. If my work or behaviour causes just one injured or fatality, it's already one too many

Hey, quick info about the Halifax Explosion. It was the largest man made explosion before the nuclear explosions. Not only did over 2000 people die, but over 9000 were injured. A train was derailed far outside the 2 cities (Halifax and Dartmouth). Windows were shattered as far away as Maine and New Brunswick. My stepfathers aunt actually survived, only because she was late for school, the school was leveled. She was a interesting person to get to know and her memories were amazing to listen to.

I’m a nurse who worked in a hospitals in the early 80’s. While I was a student nurse working on several floors my job was to go around to every room and empty the ashtrays. Then when I worked as a head nurse in a private psychiatric hospital we had a 😅smoking area on the units with two seats and ashtrays attached to the wall on a tiled floor. How times have changed in my lifetime!

You forgot to mention that the Exxon Valdez captain was drunk and that’s why he left it to his next in command. He was sleeping it off in his cabin, which makes this even worse.

The Lac-Mégantic railway catastrophe.
Tens of railway cars filled with crude oil break up in flames, incinerating 47 people alive and destroying most of a small town's center core.
Proportionaly, it's as if something killed 17000 people in Paris, France.

Great video. It’s sad that people refuse to acknowledge the fact that they are not trying to keep people safe. I remember about half of these.

I was waiting for the Tenerife airport disaster that claimed 583 lives, making it the deadliest aviation accident in history.
