I don't understand the surprise of the English that someone is claiming such a distant territory when their neighbors in Ireland and Scotland are making the same claim.
The Falkland Islands belong to Argentina since they are on the continental shelf; they are WITHIN Argentina. The English are on the islands now because 200 years ago they invaded, just as they have invaded many places in the world and formed colonies. But they are not natural territories of England; these territories are thousands of miles from England. The issue of self-determination for the islanders does not apply. It's like if someone moves into your house, and you ask them if they want to stay. Your house is yours. Cheers
As an American, I crossed the border from Brazil to Argentina and right away, monuments of the Falklands were seen. So it seems like its a big deal for them there.
