Meenu Batra spent decades working as a court interpreter in the US immigration system. Then ICE detained her for 45 days. Her story shows why South Asians can’t treat immigration enforcement as someon
This is a shame. I am glad that she had the resources and community support to get out. Think of those who don't. This is a shame. No one should have to suffer this.
This just highlights what a lot of us have been saying. She was held for 45 days, even though they knew she couldn’t be deported. The reason is actually because the PRIVATE detention facility gets paid for every single day that she was there. They prolong the holdings to make more money.
The regular staff may not even be aware that that is the reason, they just know they’re holding immigrants.
