I’ve worked offshore oil drilling all over the world internationally for going on 16 years. Anyone who loves deep sea fishing in the Gulf of Mexico can ask google to find artificial reefs in the gulf and you will be given coordinates for intentionally sunken offshore platforms. Once platforms have lived their life expectancy and plugged the wells often times companies will salvage the giant useable equipment from the facility and “Triple Rinse” items that will not be removed from the structure and then tugs will push said platform to designated blocks or coordinates that they were approved to sink the platform to the bottom of the ocean at. It creates an artificial reef for ocean life that brings hundreds of sea life to call their new home or feast at.
I work offshore drilling and have for going on 16 years now. Sadly almost the majority of these statements or explanations are far from accurate nowadays but none the less a great watch for anyone interested in what we do and how things work
