The UK and other governments owe a huge amount of debt, mostly to the rich, known as bonds. Changes in interest rates on these bonds can cause economic and political crises, as happened with Liz Truss

We cannot tax the wealthy.
Let’s keep borrowing from them.
That’s what the capital owners taught us with their media, education system and bribed politicians.

I don't live in the UK, but I really appreciate your videos. They're incredibly educational and yet easy to follow. I wish more people put as much effort into pushing for a fairer and more just society. Thank you so much, Gary.

Hi Gary, I’m a University professor in the U.S. I teach a grad class in basic financial statements & reporting. For my bond chapter, I’m going to link this video. Excellent explanation of the economics of borrowing using bonds👍🏾👏🏾

We live in a goddamn oligarchy. And I don’t think anyone has the stomach and tenacity to destroy them.
@
Thanks for this . It is the first time I kind of understand how the bond markets work.

We were there for the premiere of your documentary. It’s hopefully going to get people talking when it’s on tv. Will promote it to people at work for sure.

I am reminded of Harold McMillan in the 80’s tell Margaret Thatcher ‘you are selling the family silver’ I asked my Dad where all the silver was, he said everywhere, in the electricity, the hospitals, the water and the oil rigs in the North Sea. As a child I was disappointed there was no pot of silver bangles and necklaces. My Dad was right

Forty seven years of selling public assets has left us with sewage in our rivers and sewage in our institutions. It'll take an army to overcome their propaganda.

Gary’s Economics is my Sunday digest. I love listening to you and how you explain how economics works. I wish I had learnt about this in school.

Man discusses bonds for over an hour at his kitchen table hundreds of thousands of people watch it. That's what I call having a talent for storytelling.
