I am so glad to see this coming to the public. I do believe there was a doc done within the last 5 years that I happened to see which is what bought this to my attention. Since that time, I'm sorry to say my cynicism has been proven as I am yet to find a moralistic or environmental sympathetic company. It's part of the reason I detoxed from purchasing from corporate companies unless I absolutely have to. Please we need to comment like and share this video. We the people need to not only wake up but start using our voices. 😮
The rabbit goes way deeper than that, and it hasn't been addressed in this video. Most of this companies do not exploit the forests that they own, but they outsource wood from illegal cuttings in the area where they own forests, and this means that at least 90% of their wood doesn't come from the forests that they own. What you've seen in this video is only the tip of the iceberg.
it's frustrating to see how quick forests are being cut down in Romania, all in the name of profit...Ikea must be boycotted and Romsilva needs a radical change
Romania, Bulgaria, Ukraine, parts of Poland will all lose their forests because of corruption.
What IKEA says and what IKEA does are two totally different things.
IKEA needs to plant it's own forest for profit and not cut down ancient forest!!!! These old forests have an established ecosystem and should be never cut down.
As a woodworker, I've visited large scale production shops (not IKEA), and the amount of waste is astounding. If a board has defects, it's simply thrown in the bin. Why? Because in a mass-production environment, there's no time to repair defects or fill them with epoxy. I've built entire projects from scraps they would otherwise throw in the bin.
Every independent woodworker I've met treats wood with respect, to the point that almost nothing goes to waste. For hundreds of thousands of years, we relied on individual makers without levelling entire forests. It's time we returned to that. Not to mention, you get better quality furniture that can be passed down for generations.
Man... the hypocrisy of IKEA's spokesperson is infuriating. If DW hadn't started asking tough questions and demanding answers, not a single tree would have been planted. It's hard to believe they would have acted at all without public scrutiny. thank you DW.
