With stagflation threatening major economies, this video explains why it's the hardest regime to protect against and why the standard 60/40 portfolio fails when inflation is supply-driven. Drawing on
I've been looking into TIPS ETFs over the weekend but in Belgium you have to pay 30% on dividends (or profit if you sell the ETF), so in normal years you barely make any profit.
I have some money allocated to Consumer Staples, Utilities and Healthcare which is my main strategy and useful long term.
Last year I put a small amount in commodities which turned out to be perfectly timed haha.
I didn't dare to put in more when it went up like crazy these past few months
Thanks for this Ramin! I invest in a broad commodities fund for this very reason. It isn’t the complete answer to portfolio resilience, but a 10% allocation as you say I think works really well.
Love the channel Ramin. Retired 3 years ago. i still worry about the cape being so high here in the US. not sure if stagflation will take hold yet. Have a lot in short term treasuries which aren't much better than cash. Yet cannot see pushing higher into stocks right now. Cannot fathom how we are back at record highs.
Thank you for informative content and great video. the only bit i don't get is: At the start you report that Gold was the best performing asset in previous stagnation and then don't mention it again when discussing options to protect for the furture.
You have helped me so much in the last 3-4 yrs of self education of investing and understanding it plus in getting a later in life plan together so thank you,
I was in my twenties during the 70's stagflation period. It wasn't very pleasant. I had no investments, just money in the local bank. I just put my head down and trudged along, like most others. My sphincter tightens up every time I think about this, even now.
