Always wondered why those Su-34s looked a bit chunky up front. Makes total sense if they're landing on basically glorified dirt roads. Imagine the nightmare of trying to land a heavy fighter on a runway that’s more potholes than pavement. Smart design.

It’s wild how much the ground conditions dictate the engineering of these jets. It reminds me of how some heavy machinery uses wide tracks instead of wheels to keep from sinking into mud. I wonder if this design makes them more prone to steering issues on paved runways compared to single-wheel setups?
