The situation leading up to the liberation of Paris in 1944 is chronicled in the book "Is Paris Burning?" (French version published in 1964 by French publisher Éditions Robert Laffont and the well known English version was published in 1965 by Penguin Random House) written by Larry Collins and Dominique Lapierre, with a movie adaptation in 1966.
