I'm from Scotland, I saw a full solar eclipse here in 1998, when I was 10 years old.
I'm going to Lisbon in the first 2 weeks of August, but driving up to León on 12th August to see the Solar Eclipse. My eldest daughter is now 10 years old, the same I was during the '98 eclipse in Scotland.
I can't wait.
i was witness to the eclipse of august 1999 it was a truly magical experience with the birds (and people) falling silent and thin cloud adding to the spectacle rather than hiding it where i was in cornwall UK. it is potentially a once in a lifetime event for a lot of people. if you have never seen one and can get to band of totality do so you will remember it for the rest of your life! i cannot get to span this time so will be watching the live stream online and the partial from a window :)
Use welder mask, i got a double filter on mine that flips on if needed for extra protection, there is different glass exposure filters that make the image diffetent, both still protect to code but one with slightly more exposure will let you see more clouds around for example, you have to play with them to understand

Talking of nature though, you didn't mention the magic of the discernible chill in the air during totality which is made all the more especial by the stunned silence of and sudden return to roost that the local birdlife will show.

The 12 August 2026 total solar eclipse will be one of the most spectacular eclipses of our lifetime. Seeing the path of totality, the dazzling Baily's Beads, and the rare sunset totality over Spain makes this event truly unforgettable. Thank you to ESA, Reserve Astronaut Sara García Alonso, and Astronaut Candidate Pablo Álvarez Fernández for explaining the science so clearly and inspiring us to look up at the sky.
If you are considering whether or not it's worth getting into the totality, it is. When it came through Nebraska a few years ago, it was one of the most incredible experiences I've ever had. 99% is not 100%. You have to try if you can. I hope you guys get great weather.
If I could, I would go to Spain. I was in the fortunate position to experience a nearly solar eclipse. I will never forget in my life this atmosphere. Undescribable. Thank you for your information. ☀️☀️☀️🌹
