My 8th-grade English teacher taught me that this type of stuff happens. The drowning person grabs onto the "rescuer" and ends up drowning the rescuer. That's why an untrained person is better off not jumping into the water to help. It was their own fault for swimming in an area that doesn't have a trained lifeguard.

A pole or a stick is one of the best tools to rescue a person struggling in the water, if the person won't grab on to it while you tow them in, you can use it to protect yourself as they try to push your head under water.
If you Do Not have Life Saving Training, and posses the swimming skills, Do Not Attempt to save someone from the water.

Oh my gosh, this is just heartbreaking! 😭 It’s so scary how quickly things can go wrong when you're just trying to help someone else. Such a tragedy for those families. Do they know if the person they were trying to save actually made it out? Just devastating.

It’s a heartbreaking reminder of how quickly things can go wrong, even when you're trying to do the right thing. My heart goes out to those families. It just shows that the river is stronger than any of us, no matter how brave we feel in the moment. God bless them all.

Absolutely heartbreaking news coming out of Ohio. It’s truly selfless that they jumped in to help, but such a devastating outcome for everyone involved. My thoughts are with the families today. Does anyone have more info on the local rescue efforts?
