Where are all the benefits of diversity, seems to me that diversity is a totally negative thing, in any case what our government describe as diversity is actually division, a country of strangers with no trust left.
“Most people say that they are still happy with their lives” in your introduction…doesn’t sound too gloomy to me. Another one of those polls that is aimed at making us pessimistic and frustrated?
They want undiluted Democratic Socialism. They want the wealth of multi-millionaires and billionaires taxed at higher rates. They want water and rail renationalized. They want the NHS fully funded. They want all military aid to Israel ended. They want those responsible for the genocide in Palestine to be brought to justice. They want more rapid movement towards zero carbon emissions. And they want a media that isn't bought and paid for by right wing oligarchs.
This woman is nuts. There is nothing Joe Ordinary can do to improve the country whilst we are governed by idiots with liberal arts degrees and no life experience. The UK is now poorer (GDP per head ) than the poorest state in the US , Mississippi. GDP growth per head in the UK has been pretty poor for the entire century so far.
No border control means immigration officers don't work, two tiers policing, poor governance over decade means inefficiency but they are all waged by taxpayers. Then why taxpayers work for paying heavy taxation to keep the government who doesn't work ? Heavy taxation makes people sick to survive, corruption, bribery & crime are temptations because people need tax free cash to pay for everything especially the so damn heavy taxation.

But the lack of replacement council owned affordable housing puts universal credit in competition with private renters, which puts buy to let landlords in competition with first time and second time buyers. These means everyone else is spending more on rent or getting a bigger mortgage, because housing welfare was privatised in the 1980s.
And that makes welfare more expensive for everyone. That’s money that isn’t going to defence or the NHS.
So until housing is fixed, people will not be optimistic that they can move up.
In the 80s a big buzz word was survivor. People would say "I'm a survivor." A subtle difference, but survivor is more empowering than victim.

It feels like we're stuck in a cycle of managing decline rather than actually fixing things. Instead of just polling the mood, I wish we saw more focus on scalable local initiatives that actually work. Maybe if we shifted the focus toward community-led regeneration projects, we could start seeing some tangible movement in the right direction?
