10k a week is just ridiculous.
@
My flat service charge has gone from 1000 quid in 2022 to 1800 quid in 2026. Absolutely insane.
@
I totally agree, Council Tax is a system that leans on the poorest homes in the country and needs reform.
@
Council tax is simply fraudulent!
It has nothing to do with the service the local or district councils deliver.

15:37 Hartlepool's A&E department got shut down years ago.

It's now a town with a population of 95,000 people with no A&E. Bonkers.

ยฃ378 and we still have potholes and we still don't have wheelie bins nor a local police station...
@
Birmingham and Croydon loses all their money to different forms of political corruption. Any fellow noticers out there?
@
Richest guy I know owns care homes. When his mum died he inherited a big home and turned it into a care home. 10 k per month per room. He literally says I can drain an entirely family lifetime wealth in 2-3 years legally if heโ€™s lucky enough for them to live that long.

Leaving social care to the private sector while making it legally mandates as a cost was one of the many exceptionally dumb decisions Thatcherism brought to us.
@
just wanted to say that as an 18 year old your videos have massively helped improve my financial literacy and the way i view investing and taxes etc keep up the consistency ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป

Fun fact: this is how the Byzantine Empire stumbled and then died. A thing was never what it was called. In the UK in the 2000s it's because politicians are terrified of "market reaction". The water companies, for example, are all worthless: Thames Water, for example, has net assets of probably minus ยฃ1 billion. But its future liabilities over the next 70 years, which are unavoidable as long as people are going to have drinkable water available in their taps, amount to an estimated ยฃ300 billion. And yet Labour politicians (to say nothing of the others) are terrified of admitting that the shares in these water companies are only worth something because "the market" knows the State's guaranteed promise and support will always be there... in other words, value derives exclusively from the politicians' terror of "spooking the markets".
@
The real scandal is how much the care homes are charging. Would like to see a comparison from 30 years ago to now.
@
Private equity is a cancer.
@
Care and childcare are simply overpriced as they're a service that cannot be cut so private firms take advantage of this.
@
This is exactly what I have been saying for the past few years!!
I work in a leading learning disability charity in the adult social care sector. Not only have I seen over the past 15years the deficit in care due to austerity. But I have also seen the rise in increasingly dangerous and offensive private adult social care services driving profit not care. The system is broken and inequitable.
@
People say its social care costs but the reality is its not just the costs its also the profit. Thats whats draining funds, double the bill it should be.
@
I pay ยฃ232 a month now. Its actually insane. I pay extra for my green bin too. WTF?
@
If it felt like value for money it wouldn't be so bad.
Our council moved black bins from once every 2 weeks to 3 weeks in order to save only ยฃ100k per year (it cost ยฃ250k just to implement). Meanwhile they have spent nearly ยฃ700k deciding the fate of a coffee shop in the town centre park, and still haven't come to a decision or paid for the works required to the very small building itself. Inefficient doesn't even cover how absurd this is.
@
Social care, social care, social care. It is crippling Local Authorities and every government has been kicking the can down the road for decades because it would upset their voters.
@
Private Equity should not ba allowed to be involved in social care. They are good for only one thing, extracting money for themselves.

Unfortunately, it currently only works for English councils because we could not source credible data for Wales and Scotland.
