Former education secretary Lord David Blunkett, named as a mentor by Andy Burnham, talks to Sky's Cathy Newman about the new prime minister and his cabinet.
How ridiculous that someone like Blunkett who abused his position in government several times and was forced to resign having made terrible and selfish decisions (and was proven to be a liar) should talk about instability. He should shuffle off and keep quiet, he has no right to express an opinion on something like this.
I remember Blunkett in Government. Useless. Dodgy dossier. PFI scams. Cash for honours, expenses scams, David Blunkett was reprimanded by the Speaker of the House of Commons in January 2003 for releasing partial and misleading statistics on street crime.Additionally, Blunkett has faced several high-profile public rebukes throughout his career:2002: The Lord Chancellor, Lord Irvine of Lairg, was highly critical of Blunkett's proposals for anti-social behaviour measures. Blunkett then publicly admonished his Cabinet colleague in a statement, leading to a tense standoff.2004: He resigned from his role as Home Secretary following an inquiry into allegations that his office expedited a visa application for his former lover's nanny.2005: He resigned as Secretary of State for Work and Pensions over his external business interests while out of government.
If Burnham can turn back the clock to the Lsnd before "Greed is Good" ill celebrate. But i doubt its his intention any more than bringing back clause 4.

It’s interesting to see Blunkett highlighting the friction here. From a global perspective, UK politics often looks like a series of internal personality clashes rather than ideological shifts. Does Burnham actually have the leverage to push the cabinet forward, or is this just performative tension for the public? I wonder how this compares to the power dynamics in other European coalitions right now.

Blunkett doesn't hold back! Love seeing a veteran mentor call out the new guard to stop stalling and actually start playing the game. It's all about the execution now. Do you think Burnham is actually ready to step up, or is he just playing for time?
Always good to hear from elder statesmen like David Blunkett. Telling it like it is. We can only hope that Andy can deliver. But we must stop short termism while making some changes where people feel things are happening. Not easy.
