Why 7 prime ministers in 10 years is nothing new for the UK | FourSight

Keir Starmer is gone and now Andy Burnham is moving into Downing Street. That makes it seven prime ministers in just ten years, which has convinced a lot of people that the United Kingdom is in an unp

Democracy has been subverted and the media are not even on the case.
This is a dangerous stage in our history. Make no mistake.

We are living in the italian syndrome/era. The country is still spirallying downwards. No industry, no future.
@
It's amazing that someone could watch an original video on social media and believe it.

When the Government is driven by class warfare we are just heading for civil war.
@
I think it's the mess the country is in that makes people feel the country is in a mess, not the number of PM's we've had over a chosen time period.
@
So what I take from this is… not that it’s not a crisis, but that we were in crisis then, and we’re in crisis again now. Which is true!

The political science literature reports similar findings in other countries with the Westminster system.

What is missing in this discussion is climate change and what future chaos that will bring. In some ways it feels weird to be the doom monger with a sandwich board but climate impacts will get more and more dramatic. (In the form of increased heatwaves, floods, supply chain disruptions, immigration, food shortages, ecosystem breakdowns). All the scientific evidence points to this. The climate scientists agree. Civilisational collapse is a real possibility. It’s worth looking up the national emergency briefing website, watching the videos and seeing where they are showing the people’s emergency briefing film.

It's not 7 PMs in 10 years - Anyone who thinks so should try naming them.
@
No mention of the internet fanning discontent then?
@
Surely the 115k allowance for the ex-PMs needs to be dropped these days? Most PMs are well off enough before they become PM and afterwards can make that amount quickly on the speaking circuit without the need to waste taxpayers' money. It is especially galling when the PM was as short lived and inept as Truss.

How is Reform similar to the Labour in 1920s, back then you will get railway driver for minister, and with Reform it is what, dude taking large sums of money from dodgy people overseas and aristocrats?
@
Who would have guessed the public aren't into liars cheats and some cases criminals while screaming innocents 😂 i could have never have guessed 😂😂
@
They all share the same traits, ie, dishonesty, incompetence, a total lack of responsibility to serve the masses preferring to pander to their greedy oligarch overlords. Ever increasing authoritarianism and an aversion to accountability.

Let's try a PM on the Left

Never really got to grips with the internet and who controls the narrative. Chaos can sometimes, like consent, be manufactured.

Check out how NZ moved to a different electoral system over 30 years ago. It was achieved through two referenda in 1992 and 1993. The first to determine which alternative form of PR would go head to head with First Past the Post. The winner of both was MMP where we have two votes one for a local representative the second for a party. Two thirds of the seats in parliament are for elected members and one third from party lists to keep proportionality with party preferences. It's worked very well in practice.

Even in 2019, reading the history of the 70s and the 20s, it looked like we were headed into a mashed-up repeat of the 20s and the 70s for the new 20s. I wish I had been wrong. It’s nice to see some others making similar comparisons to the 1920s, at least.
