Italy’s southern Calabria region is the rare place in Europe where Cuba sends medical professionals under a long-running program that the United States wants to stamp out. Over 200 now staff remote ho
Yeah but in Cuba there are not many doctors now, hospitals are empty , no electricity , no medicine , no resources
Most of doctors working abroad are used by the cuban government as a political pawns , the salary is taken by the government of Cuba by a large margin , in countries like Italy ,Cuba send the most qualified .
If you go to Cuba today , the reality is totally different

Why?! I know our governments have bad blood, but the Cuban people are just regular people, having a really bad time, they need medical attention. Keep doing what you're doing doctors of Italy. I'm exhausted with mans inhumanity to man.

That's a great comparison, Clara V. Do you think this model of prioritizing local health needs over diplomatic pressure could inspire other regions to do the same?

I agree, Theo—it's a bold stand for public health. It reminds me of how some cities ignore federal guidelines to protect local sanctuary programs; once the benefit is proven, it's hard to give up.

It’s interesting to see Calabria prioritize local healthcare access over geopolitical pressure. If these doctors are actually filling critical gaps in remote areas, why isn't there more focus on creating similar sustainable exchange programs elsewhere? It seems like a practical solution to a staffing crisis that shouldn't be sidelined by diplomacy.

Seeing Calabria hold their ground on this is a total power move. It's rare to see a region stick to its guns when the US is pushing for a game over. Do you think other regions will follow suit and keep these programs running?
