The Mitochondria Scientist Dr Martin Picard reveals why stress is secretly burning 60% of your daily energy, the science behind reversing gray hair, and why your mitochondria - not your genes - determ
When Dr Picard answers the question at the end, that the previous guest left for him to answer, I was struck by how absolutely authentic, present & beautifully human he answered. Bless his heart, he bared his beautiful soul.
Amazing podcast, fantastic guest. I have had chronic fatigue for over 40 years, plus unexplained infertility, osteoporosis, insomnia for 30 years, breast cancer and severe lower back pain problem due to facet joint degeneration so I can't sit for more than 10 minutes without pain . Tried everything, exercise all supplements and therapies. This episode really resonated with me. Hopefully there is still hope for me and at least not decline further and just stabilise my health problems. Thank you so much to both of you.
One of the smartest guests this show has ever had. It's refreshing to hear someone who isn't afraid to challenge conventional thinking and back up their opinions with logic, experience, and critical thinking. Whether people agree with every point or not, conversations like this are exactly what we need—open dialogue, respectful debate, and a willingness to question assumptions instead of blindly accepting narratives. I agree with the overall message 100%. We need more guests like this who encourage people to think for themselves rather than simply repeating what they've been told.
1. Gray hair is reversible by addressing mitochondrial function and energy availability.
2. Mitochondria produce ATP, electricity, and heat, with approximately 5,000 trillion in the human body.
3. Stress hormones can increase cellular energy expenditure by up to 60%, diverting resources from health and maintenance.
4. Diabetes and Alzheimer's are linked to energy resistance and impaired mitochondrial function.
5. Exercise temporarily increases energy resistance, stimulating the body to create more mitochondria for improved efficiency.
6. The body operates on a finite energy budget, prioritizing survival over anti-aging processes when stressed.
7. Ketones offer a more efficient energy source for the brain than glucose.
8. Chronic stress elevates GDF15, an energy stress marker that signals the brain to conserve energy, leading to fatigue and disease.
9. A sense of purpose is correlated with more efficient mitochondria in the brain.
10. Standard medical research relies on 'science of averages' (RCTs) that can overlook individual variations in treatment response.
11. ME/CFS and long COVID involve deficiencies in energy transformation within muscle cell mitochondria, exacerbated by stan
Aloha, I have eaten a organic veggie diet for 40 plus years, regular fasting, herbs vitamins, daily exercise and yoga, meditation, etc and have not had a flu or cold in over 30 years!
Very good interview. We are Electrical Energy for sure.
Also in old days convalescent hospitals would wheel out patients on recliner sun beds and leave them outside facing trees and in the sun with a blanket over their knees every day. The sunshine, fresh air, trees, fauna, hearing the birds tweeting it is very healing.
My aunt was gray for decades..she developed a fatal cancer in her 70s. During her long fight including surgery and chemo, she lost her hair as expected. When it grew back it was the fire red hair of her youth. It was very unexpected and never explained to us how it could happen.
We’ve spent the last decade focusing purely on genetics and biohacking supplements, but Dr. Picard just pointed us back to the real engine room: Mitochondrial Psychobiology.
The fact that hair graying can literally reverse when a person takes a vacation is the ultimate proof that our cells are constantly listening to our thoughts and environment. Aging isn't a clock ticking down; it's an energetic balance sheet. If stress is burning 60% of our daily energy, no amount of anti-aging creams or supplements can outrun a mismanaged mind.
Brilliantly done, Diary of a CEO. This is the exact intersection of behavioral science and hard biology we need more of.
I am currently 64. When I was in my mid 40s, I was in a horrid relationship which involved hours of sobbing almost everyday. I started to go gray. We broke up and the gray went away completely within a year. I am just now starting to get a few grays again.
It’s very refreshing to hear a health expert who doesn’t take or recommend supplements or other artificial treatments! It not only gives hope to those of us who don’t have the financial means to purchase dozens of products, but it also encourages a return to a simpler, more natural and peaceful life.
This Bible verse came to mind when he talked about worrying and how it robs our mitochondria of energy - Jesus said: “And which of you by worrying can add one hour to his life’s span?” Luke 12:25 AMP
My dad in his 80s, always active, with a full head of white hair. It started turning dark. We thought it was the cup of yogurt he began eating daily. But, now am thinking maybe it was because I moved in with him to help with the house, taxes and with big chores.
We're tired all the time because we hate our jobs and just work these jobs because we have to to live. It's amazing how much more energy I have when I get to do something I love and enjoy.
1. Do what you love, find your life purpose
2. Be physically active outdoor on sunshine
3. Carefully pick what you eat
4. Stop stressing about things you cant change
5. Give your body proper sleeps

This is so cool to have a scientist come on and validate everything I learned during my time. ❤️
