It seems to me that the left liberal commentators, and the Times have many of these people, are still angry about Brexit. Widdecombe and Farage were two of the main movers for Brexit and so the hate was frequently turned on them.
It is very clear that Farage has had security men around him for the last few years. He clearly needs it, as Ann WIddecombe's murder shows. The government was not paying for this and so Farage was pleased to get the money to continue paying for his security. He is quite right in this. The Labour party gets millions from the Unions to push their policies, and the Tories get money from many business interests to fund their campaigns. That is how politics works. Reform is no different. It is the David to the other party's Goliath.
