4:47 I was in this!!! I’m a student on the schooner Bowdoin and we have been participating in the Sail250 events around the east coast. Outside of New York harbor, this squall came when we were at anchor a few hours after the tall ship class B parade. I was sitting on deck just finishing dinner and I’m watching these clouds come in and thinking if we might get some weather. Literally within 2 minutes the wind starts packing up to 30 mph. An “all hands” is called as we try to wrestle the awning down from the foresail. Our captain fired up the engine to prevent the anchor from dragging and I quickly ran down to the engine room to shut off battery chargers that would interfere with the engine’s alternator. Aside from that, after we get the awning down we all huddled below deck and watched the rain. In this specific clip, you can see the Italian Navy training ship Amerigo Vespucci battling the weather. I heard the over the radio a response to a coast guard boat from the Amerigo Vesppucci that was asking them if they needed assistance to move locations but they responded with (in an Italian accent) “Make no mistake, we are staying exactly where we are!” Absolutely legendary.😂
