I live on the Cape and am in shock how many people swim and surf in and around nauset beach. Anyone familiar will know that monomoy always had a few seals but not the thousands it has now.
It always confuses me when people ask "what do we do about the sharks?" Well, nothing, they live there and we're just visitors. They NEED to be in the ocean to survive, most people attacked by sharks are in there for recreation. You can do your best to educate people, and study why these attacks happen but ultimately it's because we're going into their territory. The vast majority of people who've died in the ocean drowned, drowning is far more common and something we can actually take measures to prevent.
