Where can I sign up to be the first person to get a housekeeping robot? Compared to what human domestic servants cost nowadays, those robots look like a bargain. And they are on duty call 24/7.
Quick education. These initial robots will have limited tasks they can perform. It's not close to being your assistant with you assigning it about any task and it can complete it without error. Then what areas are safe to let this thing out on it's own. Many places it will get broken, vandalized or stolen.
There is speculation in about 20 years from now robots in the home and the work place will be fairly common. There are robots that can do specific complicated tasks, but they are very expensive. There are robots that can be used for military operations with great accuracy. There are many manufactures using robotic assembly of specific parts of products especially in the auto industry. There are companies using robots for moving inventory around in large warehouses. These machines can work 24/7 and only stopping to recharge their batteries.
One day soon somebody is going to set up a recruitment agency hiring out humanoid robots. Then Adecco, Brook Street and others will have some serious competition.
The day a robot can fully clean my kitchen and bathrooms is when I will be ready to pay for one.
