My Goodness, what is with all these earthquakes in such a short time. I hope everyone is safe .

Seems like it's much closer to Invercargill than Christchurch isn't it? Let's have some of the New Zealanders chime in here, please.
@
Kiwi from the area here the quake was north of Te Anau just up the road 100ks from my home Invercargill the cat took off but nothing to worry about folk just a rattle 5.9 on the scale

That's nowhere near Christchurch. I'm in Christchurch and lying in bed. This is the first I'm seeing about it.
@
Hi from central otago in southern New Zealand 👋 it woke me up, rattled windows, I'm 140 km or 87 American miles from the epicenter as the crow flies. It's pretty typical for strong earthquake near the fiordland coast to trigger a tsunami advisory as a precaution but it was lifted pretty quickly when the data was reviewed by geonet because it was in the mountains. But of excitement, I have a friend working in a shop closer to the epicenter, he said a few things were tossed off shelves and a bit of coffee was spilled but that was it👋

We live in dunedin, was shaking for what seemed like forever... definitely not wanting any bigger

Christchurch is nowhere near where the earthquake happened Christchurch is about 640 km away Dunedin city is the closest at 246 km either the reporter doesn't know geography or whoever wrote the story definitely doesn't know geography. And how do I know this because I live in New Zealand.
@
I live around 417 miles east of the earthquake in Dunedin, didn't feel anything, maybe thats because I'm on an inclined street in town, but yeah just watched tv on the sofa while dealing with 2 nice ladies that were moving into my place at the time, but nope didn't know about the quake till around a few hours later,
@

"Near Christchurch". Yeah, it's near Christchurch in the same way that Toronto is near New York. I'm in Christchurch and I did not feel a thing.

It's really not surprising, because New Zealand gets a lot of Earthquakes.I'm not surprised
