The phrase should be “preparing to deter war” - or have we forgotten about thousands of lives lost and mass destruction of WWII?
No one wants that again.
So...we get shown an empty warehouse with no heavy engineering capability and they bring in a 777 made somewhere else years ago... and we are supposed to think everything is in hand, blighty is sorting its armament issues? No mention that towed artillery is a thing of the past because it gets shwaked by drones before it can move. I feel totally reassured.
The reason it is empty is they a waiting for orders that the government can't decide on. I worked at Roual Ordnance Nottingham the last dedicated gun factory. It was shut 25 years ago for exactly the same reason.
The M777 is maade of titanium to allow it be be lifted by helicoptor. It was a US requirement and not considered by the Britsh army
Most of the gun is US made which was part of the sontract and contributed to the Nottingham plant closure.
