respect the driver's space. the front seat is their office where they sometimes keep items ready on hand in front seat. only someone ignorant to respect would even think about sitting in front. you belong in the back out of the way.
Ive always thought of sitting in back as customary , plus i usually wasnt in a chatty mood when i had to take taxi not to mention taxis in southern metropolitan areas are sketch af because ppl just dont taxi in Southbut ive had to.
