The world needs to realize that lasting peace with Iran may not be achievable under the current circumstances. The only realistic path forward may be for the United States to withdraw its military presence and naval forces from the region and accept that this strategy has not produced the desired outcome. Whether President Trump would ever agree to that is doubtful, just as his ally Vladimir Putin is unlikely to accept President Zelenskyy’s proposal for a long-range missile ceasefire. In my view, meaningful progress toward peace will remain difficult as long as leaders on all sides continue to reject compromise, unless both are prosecuted-jailed for their war crimes.
