The strongest argument for Farage is that no politician deserves trial by media before due process. The strongest argument against him is that trial by media isn’t unique to him—it has affected MPs from every party. That doesn’t mean there is an establishment conspiracy. Consider recent examples: Boris Johnson during Partygate. Owen Paterson during the paid advocacy investigation. Chris Pincher during the misconduct investigation. Angela Rayner during investigations into her tax affairs (although that involved different authorities). The answer to that problem is a fair, transparent and timely standards investigation for everyone, not replacing independent fact-finding with a taxpayer-funded popularity contest.

An investigation asks, “What happened, and did it breach the rules?” An election asks, “Do you still want this person to represent you?” Those are different questions. A constitutional democracy needs both. Or do you want a country in which popularity means you can be corrupt?

Hang on what? The establishment are trying to weaponise a scandal? Firstly Farage is most assuredly part of the establishment. Secondly... it's a 5 million quid bribe. Going after him is common sense plain and simple. In what deluded universe is investigating a 5 million quid bribe weaponising a scandal? Farage is going to cost the UK taxpayer a wad of cash on a publicity stunt.

If his supporters don't get it after this they never will.
