Japan is so backwards. Even communist China has national maternity leaves. Maternity leave in China provides a national baseline of 98 days paid leave, which is heavily extended by provincial regulations. Most major regions offer 128 to 190 days in total (e.g., 158 days in Shanghai and Beijing). Compensation is paid via the Maternity Insurance Fund
